Actress Roop Durgapal is one versatile actress and she has absolutely proved it time and again. Having experimented with a variety of roles, she has found her true calling in positive roles.
After being a pivotal part of shows like Balika Vadhu, Swaragini and Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi among others, the actress will soon enter &TV’s social drama Gangaa. In an exclusive chit chat with Roop, we got her talking about where she would love to see herself a few years down the line, career wise.
You are set to enter Gangaa; will your character be shown having shades of grey or a positive one?
Supriya is a very positive girl but she has undergone a miscarriage which has enabled her to get into her own shell and she is bit depressed too. Eventually coming out of the shell she will be a person behaving as per situation demands. May be grey at times, but of course, but not negative. I am done with negative roles and chose this one for its positivity only.
Why did you choose Gangaa? Have you been following the show?
I had seen a couple of episodes when it was launched and it seemed an amazing show. And now that I’ve signed it, I started watching it to have a gist of the story. I took it up because it’s from the same production house as Balika Vadhu, my first show which I did for 2.5 years, so automatically it’s like homecoming for me. But also as I said, it is a positive and strong role. And this is exactly what I was on the lookout for.
You had a small but lasting role in Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi. Plus it was a positive one. People expected you to turn negative at some point of time. But you didn’t and that was surprising. How has that experience been?
About Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi, yes I am thankful to the makers for trusting me with such a positive role. Natasha was so calm that I’ve actually got her character home and become very patient and calm myself. She was never supposed to turn negative and that is precisely why I accepted it. I had a lovely experience doing KRPK as the entire team is so lovely and I got to prove that I can play a positive role with the same comfort as my earlier roles. Making Natasha negative would have killed the essence of her character and that was not at all the plan.
Will we get to see you doing reality shows?
I would love to do a singing reality show as I am dying to show my singing skills too. Also hosting a good crime show is in my wishlist. I follow what is happening around very actively so I guess I can do that also pretty well.
A dream role for you would be?
Dream roles are many. Kajol in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kareena Kapoor in Jab We Met, Esha Deol in Naa Tum Jano Naa Hum… the list will go on and on. But to sum it up, a romantic role is what I wish to do.
Are you more in your element with negative and grey characters or are you willing to experiment? Also, what kind of roles are there in your bucket list?
I am an actor and I love to do a variety of roles. But I am certainly biased towards positive ones as that gets you most of the love of your fans. I have done gray, negative and positive roles and also played Birbal and Naagin in the show, Akbar Birbal which was comedy. I have enjoyed playing all kind of roles but I definitely want my fans to love me even more now. And I guess now is the time to get my share of love by playing a lovable role.
We hope to keep watching more and more of Roop’s acting prowess..!
